It’s all very subjective and we have no way of knowing whether the product will run trouble-free for several years or not/.Maybe that’s why some people buy cheap because they reason that if product A @ £250 is going to give them the same 5 year life span as gadget ridden product B @ £600, why would they buy the latter unless the gadgets matter to them of course. I prefer long term reliability with basic functions eg nothing “smart” in my appliances
I think Don is right ,we need to see return to repairable long-lasting products

I’ve set myself a budget of between £500-650 for a single oven and a bit more for a combo oven to go above it .With that in mind John Lewis , AEG , Zanussi and maybe a Hisense model within that price range comes to mind.
I don’t know if Which are a reliable source of information but they seem to rate a very cheap stream clean Hisense alternative, the O521ABUK which they describe as a fantastic oven to have in one’s kitchen. A pyrolytic alternative ie OP543PGUK, comes in at £579

As I touched on in previous post the “right to repair” legislation will come in. This will make repairing an appliance easier for the public and trade and also extending the life of the product. However this will come at a price as appliances will have to go up in order to sustain this. I also think the cost of the spares will also increase.

I personally believe like others in this trade it will be a good thing making appliances last longer as they can be repaired has to be a better option than cheap rubbish that does not last and ends up being recycled after a few years.

    Don

and wasting energy, and increasing carbon footprint even though some of the materials used can be recycled.Anyway many thanks for your replies .Much appreciated

Like a lot of TV’s nowadays even Panasonic, Sony and Toshiba along with others are made by Vestel.

On white goods a lot are also made by Vestel!!

In the old days I could tell by the barcode which country it was made in so you had a good idea which factory. Nowadays barcodes by a lot of manufacturers are registered to their head office so you have no idea where it has come from. I have even phoned some and been told that the product is made in the EU no help there then.

You have to rely upon the “name” on the front in a lot of cases and trust it’s okay.

Hopefully in years to come when appliances have to be built so they can be repaired ( the right to repair legislation) will things get better but that will come at a cost to the consumer!!

    Don

i don’t mind paying the extra provided I know I can get them repaired but it seems to me that most appliance regardless of cost to the consumer, are either difficult or downright impossible to get repaired. If I pay more for something it is because I expect it to be more reliable as well as repairable. All these so-called features are just window dressing to me designed to part me from my money whilst saddling me with a product that is going to cause me frustration. Some years ago I bought a direct drive LG washer which seemed very well made but after 5 years of use it started giving me problems Something to do with the electronic being faulty but I could not get it fixed so it was scrapped

Miele, Liebher and Elica and there some others which are top end manufacturers.

    Don

the only reason I ask is that I know a considerable number of Panasonic TVs at the lower end of the market are made by a Turkish company called Vestel which are generally not recommended by an audiovisual forum through being inferior products to their main competitors ie the likes of Sony, Samsung, LG etc. I assumed, therefore, something similar was happening with white good products but you are suggesting that any of the above aimed at the UK market should meet the expected quality requirements?

As for Inonnocenti of which I had not heard of, a quick Google search tells me they were once a Scooter and automotive manufacturer!!

You need to research research and some more as well.

    Don.

thanks and I am doing that now. One difficulty I am having is ascertaining which models from the likes of Bosch or Electrolux are not inferior ones from companies they have taken over such as Bosch’s Balay in Spain.
