ParticipantRe: MFI DIPLOMAT OVEN
Hi there,
We seem to have experienced similar problems to at least 4 other respondents ….. Inner glass door of main oven on our Diplomat ADP4890 exploded last Friday night, 3rd November 2006 ….. Glass everywhere in kitchen ….. Thank goodness the oven door had just been closed.
Oven 2 months out of warranty, and MFI Extracare say we have to pay for new part and service engineer’s visit, which they cannot schedule, as part is out of stock !!
This was far from a cheap oven, with a “list price” of £999.99, still well over £500.00 after the builders’ discount. The oven had never been abused, the glass door had NEVER been used as a shelf, and it has been regularly and properly cleaned.
I asked Extracare why they have not requested serial number of the appliance, particularly as the flying glass shards, which went everywhere within 10 feet of the oven, were not retained by the outer door, to check if this might be a common / design fault, but did not seem interested. These ovens are dangerous !!
I have contacted Consumer Direct / Trading Standards, but as the oven was supplied by a Builder (who purchased from Howdens Joinery, part of MFI until a month ago) when our entire house was being refurbished, they say our “redress” is against the builder, not MFI / Howdens.
All seems very coincidental that other Diplomat glass oven doors have exploded in the same way. I realise that they may be different ovens, but I’ll bet they all have one component in common ….. The same inner glass door.
I have written to the builder, Howdens and MFI, who I believe are the only ones who can address this problem.
Any ideas on how to get some response from them ?
