    Thanks Penguin45.

Although I am inclined to agree with you about the electronic control unit, I am not fully convinced though. I am not sure how the programmed unit works but whenever I attempt to switch on an element I hear the usual “click” sound even though the element does not come on even at a high setting. I hear the same “click” sound when I manually switch it off. Could it be that the control unit is switching it on but the element’s faulty cut-off unit is somehow disabling the element? Today I tried it once again; two of the elements on the same side appear to be working as normal (coming on, cutting off, coming on…), the other two on the other side don’t seem to be! Yet, some time ago, this was working/not working the other way round! Very confusing and almost illogical.

Can anyone recommend a good independent repairer in my area (Bury, near Manchester) who will be willing to quote a free estimate?

What a fuss for such a simple device, but my wife is going crazy over deciding what to cook in the oven all the time… By the way, only recently I had to replace the blown cut-off thermostat in my Electrolux oven, also three years old. Is there a reliability issue with Electrolux products?

Once again thanks for reading this.

Thanks Penguin45. Your fast response is much appreciated.

The quote for the electronic control unit is 146.81 pounds (inc. VAT and delivery). I am now considering buying a new one instead of spending that money on something which may go wrong again. I am surprised to see the chips exposed to heat almost unprotected (there is a rubber seal around the PCB housing which is supposed to press against the glass but I am not sure if this is working and/or is adequate).

Baumatic BF13 is selling at under 190 pounds on line which appears to be a good price. It includes a 2-year warranty and a 5-year parts only warranty. Has anyone got any comments on this make/model?

    Thanks again.
