Thanks very much for your quick reply. I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner.
I’ve checked the water line to the machine, and there is no visible problem. I know water is coming through the pipe because the clothes washer is on the same one and it still works.
I was reminded that the first time the dishwasher stopped working it was mid-cycle. It had started but didn’t get very far (the soap door hadn’t opened yet but it had started to rinse).
We have very hard water. Is there a remote possibility that the line could have silted up, or am I just grasping at straws that would avoid having to find a technician? We used the machine almost daily.
Another thought was that we recently bought some new glasses from which some thin, flexible plastic/gel, coloured decoration washed off. I fear that this worked its way into something vital.
