He’s busy. Hopefully catch up with him this week. Let you know how it works out.

Many thanks for all your advice. I have no intention of testing live equipment – heard too many horror stories. I will look for obvious faults, loose wires, scorch marks and so on. If nothing presents, I have a friend who is a professional electrician, who will probably look at it for a suitable liquid bribe (after the event, of course).

Ok, checked the first and orginal element for continuity and it’s fine. Next step is to get the oven out and check for obvious wiring faults.

Understood. I’ll check the elements, and then if they are ok, take the oven out and just check for any abvious stuff, like loose wires. Then I may have to call in a professional if it’s still not working.

The element I changed is the coiled one behind the back plate of the oven, 240V, 2500 W, code 311644800. Neither it nor the replacement are giving out any heat.
Is there another element that I should be looking at? Is there a fuse in the circuitry that could be at fault?

I can get hold of a multimeter on Monday, so I’ll check them both then. Will let you know the result.
Got the element from Element Man in Birmingham.
Many thanks for the advice.

Ok. Will see if I can check this. Is this likely to be accessible from the back of the oven. BTW, the fan and oven light both come on when the fan oven function is selected using the switch on the front panel. This made me think that the switch was not to blame???

Hi Gordy
Yes, the stat light is working. The main oven functions as normal, except on the fan oven setting. The stat light seems to be working on the fan oven setting also, but the oven doesn’t heat up. This suggests to me that the thermostat is ok and that something else is wrong.

Won’t be able to test the old element until Monday, but it seems to be visually OK. No signs of damage. The new element I put in is doing no better than the old one. No heat!
Don’t know what you mean by a stat light, Gordy, but all other functions of the main oven seem to be as before. The only fault seems to be the lack of heat on the fan oven setting.
Does the fan oven work of a separate thermostat?
