Sorry for the late response, just found this thread again. In the end I gave up and sold the fridge as malfunctioning, someone picked it up for the spare parts. Pretty sure the fault was the compressor though…

Re: Samsung RSH1 Side-by-Side Compressor not running

I just installed a new inverter PCB, but I’m still getting the same error signaled by the LED: “SPM Fault”. I’m running out of ideas, is there anything else I could try?

I checked the signal “comp” on the connector from the main PCB to the inverter PCB, it’s 5V, 50:50 duty cycle, 400Hz. From what I read, that’s what it’s supposed to be.

I probed the inverter output using an oscilloscope. What you see in the attachment is the voltage at the U and V pins of the inverter PCB, measured at the connnector towards the compressor. U W and V W look the same. I put the application in forced operation (FF1).

Shouldn’t the signals be phase shifted? It looks to me like something shorted out and and some kind of line voltage is applied to the compressor, because the signals I’m gettig are 50 Hz, 320V Peak-to-Peak and in phase. But it’s hard to tell what exactly without a schematic, any ideas?

Thanks! Where can I get a new one? I couldn’t find it in the uk whitegoods store. Searching the internet, I come up with a lot of similar inverter PCBs, but none has the same product code used in my application. The marking on my inverter PCB says “DA41-00288A Ver. 1.5”

Thank you very much for sharing this!

According to this picture, I’ve got a defective Inverter PCB. Is this picture directly applying to my model code number? E.g. should I buy a new inverter PCB based on this information alone?

I tried to check inverter output using a digital multimeter and following this instruction: http://www.orionair.co.uk/air_conditioning_compressor_inverter.htm

Is this a valid approach? Because I get MAX readings between 38 and 125VAC. It seems to be depending on which phase I’m measuring, but even for the same phase I get different readings when I replug the fridge multiple times. Watching the energy meter I put between the plug and the socket, it looks like the electronics is only once trying to start the compressor, after a surge of 150-300W lasting maybe half a second, the power consumption stays stable at ~21W. Maybe the digital multimeter is just too slow to accurately measure the maximum voltage applied to each phase? Any experience using this approach?

I also noticed that the LED flash code changes when I’m disconnecting the compressor, so at least there’s some logic still working fine.

I further investigated on the Klixon, it’s a TM4 from Sensata http://www.sensata.com/klixon/motor-protector-4tm.htm. All the pictures I found online are showing a metal clip where mine has just plain plastic, could that be the problem?

That would be really helpful, thank you very much!

I just checked the over load relay, model number “4TM319SFBYY-82”. It rattles when I shake it, is that normal? I measure zero ohms between its contacts, that’s good right?

Could anyone explain or link a website that explains how this overload protection is supposed to work? I don’t see any direct electrical connection betweeen the 4TM319SFBYY-82 and the compressor, and it doesn’t look like it’s a good heat conductor neither. I searched for a while but couldn’t find anything.

Re: Samsung RSH1 Side-by-Side Compressor not running

Nope, the PCB cover is just a sheet of metal without any prints 🙁

Is there a way I can test if the compressor is mechanically blocked? Like e.g. connect 230VAC to wire X and Y?

If got an digital multimeter, but unfortunately it has no min/max function. Is there a way I could determine if the inverter output is fine without it?

    Hi Bryan,

there is a red LED on the inverter board, flashing like this:

    “Blink” “Blink” “2 seconds pause”

I took a picture of the diagram on the back of the fridge (see attachment), but I couldn’t find any fault codes…neither on the PCBs or in the service manual 🙁 Am I missing something?

Re: Samsung RSH1 Side-by-Side Compressor not running

I’m in Germany. I bought this machine used, so I’m unsure of its age and have no documents to claim any warranty. I’ve never heard of a 5 or 10 year warranty on those freezers, but if there is, maybe I can get some proof of purchase from the previous owner. Anyways, he claimed it’s about 3,5 yrs old.

The compressor model used in my machine is an EQ4A5QL2X/E01. This is a inverter compressor? How can I check if the compressor or the electronics is the problem if forced operation isn’t working and the fridge isn’t showing an error code pressing the top two buttons on the front panel?

Re: Samsung RSH1 Side-by-Side Compressor not running

I checked the fuses on the supressor board and the inverter board, both are fine. The freezer light bulb is working.

I’m not quite sure how to check the ice maker solenoid: I disconected the white-black cable labeled “ice maker solenoid” from CN71 and measured between this cable and the black cable from the supressor board. I got a resistance value of 180kOhm…not quite sure what I measured there, the value seems to be way to high for a solenoid resistance?
