Thanks Martin,
I seem to have done the right things then (today) 😳
I left the fan blowing onto the wet bits and connector block which seemed to have dried out nicely, then I used WD40 on any wiring that might have had a soak.
I tested that the Backplate Clamp Ring was sealed ok by putting a few jugs of water into the tub. Plugged in and did a short test run of the motor without the belt on and that seemed fine on fast spin again.
Put everything back together and 2 washloads later all seems well (fingers crossed).
Maybe I got lucky (fingers crossed again)
Thanks again Martin and everyone here who have given such useful advice 😀

Well the bearings went in without undue violence and apart from a few slices taken out of my hands from the nice sharp metal edges of the inside casing everything went back together without any major problems (I thought).
Did a hot wash with no clothes in last night and it purred like a kitten even on the high speed spin.
Then I did a small load on the short ‘daily wash’ setting and found that it wasn’t getting up to a high spin speed and not spinning at all on the ‘drain’ part of the programme. So I switched it off and left it because it was late.
Had a look this morning and it appears that I hadn’t tightened the metal band that grips the front and back of the tub together enough.
Looks like it must have ‘caught’ somewhere making me think it was all nice and tight, anyway it must have work loosed during the wash programme as there was water underneath the washer and also in the motor connector block.I’ve tightened the band again and it looks snug all around.
I’ve currently got a fan blasting into the open back to hopefully dry out the now open connector block and any water that may have got into the motor. The motor was working last night so its not dead, maybe poorly though 🙁
Would water in the connector block stop the high speed spin kicking in or have I knacked the motor ?
Also how long should I leave things to dry out ?
Would spraying some wd40 onto the connector block and motor be a good or bad idea ?It was all going so well…. 😡

Hi again,
I now have the bearings (cheers Dave!) but i’m having trouble buying suitable synthetic (silicone) grease. Everywhere seems to sell Lithium based but not Silicone ? Is Lithium based ok to use ? or Black Graphite ?
I called into a washing machine spares place and they said they have never used anything but normal grease for this and kindly gave us a blob in a bag for free (clear honey coloured thick stuff). Very nice of them, but I don’t want to have to do this ALL again in a few months! 😥
Halfords were very nice on the phone and said they had some! So I drove around and they then did an about face and said they didn’t know if the Castrol grease they were selling me was synthetic…. 👿 They denied having any data sheets that would identify what was in the various greases they had for sale. I would have thought that COSHH (sp?) regulations meant that they had to have them…
Anyway I wasted an afternoon on the phone and driving around in the blazing sun for jack…
Any advice on what to buy, what its called and where to buy it will be gratefully accepted…
cheers, have a great weekend… 😉

No! No!If the shaft and collar is unmarked a smearing from an oily rag is good enough 😉
Grease up the new bearings and water seal on reassembly (just a smear though)

Cheers! what kind of grease do I need to use ? 😳

Not at all, in fact the front seal is most likely the cause of the failure!….The ‘Bearing Kit’ comes with a new seal anyway. 😉Make sure the Drum Shaft, especially the ‘collar’ that accomodates the water seal, is clean and unmarked. Otherwise reassembly would be pointless without fitting a new inner drum shaft as well 😉

Thanks Martin, impatience got the better of me and both *insert expletive* bearings are now out! Without Dave’s info about which way to tap them out I’d have been at it forever. Thinking about it now, it should have been common sense but I’m a bit short of that obviously! 🙄
As luck would have it the front seal came off with the ‘front’ bearing after I removed a circular ‘spring ring ?’ from inside it. But its going in the bin anyway.
I’ve just checked the collar on the drum shaft and it looks ok. No deep grooving or pitting. Its got a fine layer of rust and detritus on it but under that it seems fine. The washer has been out of commision for a while. I’ve got some fine ‘wet n dry’ paper, would that be ok to clean things up with ?
Many thanks again to you both!

One bearing comes out one way and the other the other way. i.e. The rear bearing needs to be knocked out towards the rear and vice-versa for the other one.The bearing kit for the machine is £18.50 inc VAT and postage, if you would like one ordered and sent on to you, drop me an email.

Dave.
Thanks for the very fast response and modding Dave, I will certainly order the kit from you when I have the old ones out. 😀
Any more tips on removing the old ones ? I have already doused them with WD40. I’m presuming it makes more sense to try and remove the ‘back’ bearing first ? and does it matter if the ‘front’ seal gets trashed ?
I’m learning fast but I’ve never removed bearings before so any newbie tips will not be wasted.cheers,
