Re: Servis Caress 1100 occasional stalls on full load start

    Just an update.

I Have now changed the motor capacitor and so far there has been no stalls under fairly full loads. I have re seated the motor control Triac with generous thermal compound to ensure proper heat dissipation on the DMPA H7 module.

If the capacitor was the culprit then it must have had problems under full drive, so I guess thats true ‘Bobs is my uncle’.

A Good call by Penguin 45.

    Many thanks to all. 😀

    Hi Graeme,
As I remember the bearing change was straightforward : Unplug supply etc, remove back panel, roll off belt, release seal clamp from outer drum back plate, jiggle the drum & back plate out of machine, knock out drum & shaft from spider using block of wood & lump hammer (to protect threads replace nut flush to shaft end), knock out old bearings evenly using a drift.
New bearings should be pressed in but a rounded shaft can be used to bash them in evenly with reasonable care on the outer race, don’t let the bearing cant on pushing back in.
The ones I replaced didn’t appear to worn but made a racket on spin which returned to ‘as new’ when replaced.
    Hope this helps

    Ref the Stall on starting
I have ordered the new start capacitor but don’t hold much hope that this will fix the starting problem as it operates normally on half load. Investigating the DMPA H7 control module I have found that the motor circuit uses a Triac as a soft power start to feed the field winding supply via the motor reversing relay. Next time I get the urge I will measure the Triac ‘on’ voltage when under stalled condition to see if full power is being delivered to the motor.

    Thanks for the feedback.
The start capacitor was my first port of call so I have checked the value of this by charging it via a 0.5 Mohm resistor to 63{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the final charging voltage. This checks OK (10secs or there about) out for a 20uf capacitor, albeit at a low voltage. I’ll change the capacitor anyway at the ealiest opportunity.

The other thing is this is intermittent as most of the time the motor starts normally on its usual wash load. I suppose there could also be a duff stator winding in the motor or a loose contact somewhere ?
