    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

I am sorry that I have not updated this thread.
In the end I got an engineer out. After a few quick tests, the fault was traced to the heater in the fridge half. The engineer had broken the evapourator cover during its removal, so this was replaced also.
    Now the bad bit:
    Call out charge £75
    New heater unit £55
    New evapourator cover £125
All this with Vat came to £300. ouch
Of course there was no way for me to trace the fault then, but cahnging the heaters is simple enough if you are used to mending things. Tip: If you defrost the fridge for a day or so, the evapourator cover is less likely to be damaged when it is removed.
    Good luck.

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

Well I thought that I had cracked it when I changed the sensor in the fridge section. The unit seemed to work well for 48 hours, but now is as bad as ever. I crossed all my fingers, touched wood and everything.

I have organised for an engineer to come out on Thursday. I will let you know of the progress.

I have just seen a thread on this website back in april, which seems identical to mine. See: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … lt&popup=1

The owner replaced the sensors AND the heater, maybe I jumped the gun by getting an engineer in , but I am sure that I will be in good hands.

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

    Hi Bryan
    Thanks for the reply.
One last try – I am going to swap the old freezer sensor which I replaced and removed, with the old(existing) fridge sensor which I did not replace.
Unless a miracle happens, I will call out one of your approved engineers as per your original suggestion.
    Thanks for all your help.
I hope that you do not mind helping people who would rather have a go at saving some costs (it has only cost me £15 so far).
    Best wishes.

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

Well I have returned from a wet holiday in Anglesey.
The fridge freezer was thoroughly defrosted over ten days, and I have installed a new sensor in the freezer…… and nothing has changed.
The unit gets down to the correct temperatures on both the fridge and freezer sides, but it is erratic about switching the coolers back on in order to sustain the required pemperatures. Sometimes I hear it switching on and sometimes I come down in the morning to find the temperatures way too high.

I am not massiveley surprised that replacing a single sensor did not work – afterall both sides were not performing.

    What to replace next?

Shall I try and contact Currys? Even though the unit is 3 years old, I am aware that these Samsungs have a design fault, and therefore were never fit for sale. Should/could Currys help out?

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

    Cliffak
Your problem sounds identicle to mine.
I am off on holiday this evening, and I am going to completely defrost the freezer and fridge for one week with the doors open to melt any ice that may have built up in the system.
I am also going to install a new defrost sensor (about £13) when I put it back into action.
N.B. As a quick fix I am turning the fridge off and then on at the mains. This seems to reset the temperature sensors, and the chiller starts.
I will let you know how I get on.

    Thanks Bryan
I will order one and go from there.
    Fingers crossed.

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

    Hello Bryan

    Thanks again for your help.

Having read some other threads, I unplugged the unit and plugged it straight back in again. The fridge/freezer immediately started chilling and the display showed the current temps (-5, and 8), instead of what the unit is set to (-25 and 3), which is what it had been displaying prior to unplugging.

Does this sound more like the defrost sensor?

I had also read in other threads that a poorly functioning defrost sensor does not always show an error on the diagnostic test using the top two buttons of the display pannel.

    Best wishes.

    Re: Samsung SR-S2028CVW

Thanks Brian, though this is not the best news.

Since the problems first started, I have been monitoring the unit a bit more carefully.

The fridge freezer chills well, but the temperatures are clearly fluctuating a lot. It seems that the unit gets down to the correct temperature (a deep freeze), but does not start chilling again until the temperature has risen way above what it is set to. It appears that the thermostat (or modern equivalent) is not switching the chiller on at the correct level to maintain a steady level.
The fridge appears to show the same symptons.

    Does this change your prognosis?

If not, I will get an engineer out.

    Thanks in advance.
    Michael
