ParticipantMany thanks again Dave for your reply.
I think considering the age and condition of the machine ( assuming I can`t find any obvious wiring issues ) it will be time to purchase a replacement. In theory I could spend £100 on a replacement main board for the machine, hopefully curing the problem only for something else to fail a few weeks later. That £100 could go towards a new machine complete with warranty…….and save Dad the hassle of trying to repair a secondhand machine 😉
Appreciate your help and assistance over the last couple of weeks

ParticipantThank you Dave, as mentioned I will check the wiring as you suggest, that will be tomorrow when I next pop to see my daughter. If there are no issues to report or anything obvious I will have to assume its the main board.
Are main boards worth replacing or usually beyond economical repair ?

ParticipantHi Dave,
The machine was placed on setting for spin as per photo #26 after fitting the switch, the pump will continue to operate on and off until the machine timed out and popped up with the Err2 code

ParticipantAfter fitting the new switch the machine was set to rinse to see if the switch cured the problem, the pump emptied the water but continued to operate on and off until it timed out with Err2.
The machine was then set to eco wash. The machine filled with water and the drum would turn anti clockwise before stopping and then turning clockwise. It appears everything works “ok” until it get to the spin cycle.
So to answer your questions :-
Does the main motor actually via the belt turn the drum? Yes.
Does the drum tumble one way then another and does the motor make the drum spin? It tumbles but doesn`t appear to spin.
Does the machine fill with water and stop filling up and then does the drum go round? Yes
Haven`t touched the motor yet or inspected the brushes.Hope this helps 😉

ParticipantThanks again Dave, will let you know how I get on 😉

ParticipantThank you Dave, sorry to sound dense but I am useless with multi meters, I do have a continuity tester which obviously buzzes when a circuit is made, could I use this to test the switch?
Mister Linnet
ParticipantThank you very much Dave,
I have blown through the pipe from the air bell upwards, so It would pay to detach the pipe from the switch and trying blowing downwards towards the air bell. Having said this I imagine the pipe should be clear as I heard a faint click when I blew through the pipe from the air bell, the click I heard I assume would be a diapgram inside the switch

What sort of readings am I looking out for when using a multi meter and what setting do I need to use? or would it be better to just replace the switch assuming I can find a replacement, although a cursory look on the internet suggests a genuine replacement to be £60 😮

ParticipantThanks very much Dave,
I`ll have to take the top off the machine to see where the thin hose leads to then take another photo. ( on the second time around of investigating the issue of code Err2 I did run a hose pipe connected to mains water through the waste water hose pipe that is connected to the top of the pump just to ensure this was not blocked and to confirm clear running water into the outside drain. When I did this I also removed the clip from the plastic bell and inserted a spare piece of hose long enough for me to blow a couple of breaths of air into the pipe by mouth. I heard like a faint click each time I blew down the pipe. )

ParticipantHi Dave,
Many thanks for your interest and reply. Yes the majority of the water has been pumped out leaving the clothes inside the drum drenched. -
