The capacitor could have a diagram printed on the unit or the value of the capacitor.
if it states eg, 3uF (3 micro farad) or some other value you could use a test meter with a capacitance measurement and check it against what is written on the side.
When they fail they usually split or leak.

I meant in the drip tray underneath the sump.
I don’t mean the actual dishwasher sump where the water collects and where the spray arms are located.
Mine has a waterproof drip tray below the entire dishwasher.
A float device is activated should water enter the drip tray and this will only allow the pump to empty the dishwasher. Nothing else works.
Again i’m not sure if the bosch works on the same principle.

    Hi,
Although I do not have your model of dishwasher, on a previous occasion that I had a stuck system it turned out to be the anti flood switch had activated.
This seems to prevent anything working other than the pump to empty the system.
Have you checked that no water has collected in the base, due to a leak.
I’m assuming your’s works on the same principle has mine.

    ok,
I changed the thermostat which I purchased locally from drulight spares, very helpfull guy there.
Unit appears to be functioning, will see what happens over the next few days. I also placed a blob of heat sink compound on the thermostat to improve conduction between the stat and the door.

My wife is pleased, she had indicated she would swop me for a new dishwasher.
Now I know where I stand in the pecking order of life.
