Re: Admiral Fridge Freezer (side by side)

Well I eventually got an engineer to call out to give me free estimate. He assessed the fridge and concluded that it’s the compressor thats faulty. He informed me that the fridge is actually manufactured by Maytag and that he would have to get a price for a new compressor, even then he could not guarantee that the fridge didn’t have a gas leak (which may have caused the compressor to fail over time in the first place).

He called me yesterday to give me the price of the replacement compressor………..are you ready for this…………. please, sit down

    £500 & odd

Soooo, me thinks i’ll be buying a new fridge….unless someone knows of a work around, maybe another compressor can be made to fit!!!

Even the engineer asked if I had just got the fridge as it is still in ‘as new’ condition, not a mark on it, I tend to take care of my belongings and it’s just a disgrace that I have to get rid of it.

I know people that have fridge’s that are 20 year old and still going strong, it appears to me that the average lifespan these days is 7 – 10 year tops, if your lucky

Thanks anyway for all your help.

    Kind Regards

Right, so the compressor seems to be running constantly, the vents insode the freezer compartment seem to be blowing air that is room temperature. Does this mean the defrost heater is constantly running?

    Thanks eddie

I can here the compressor running, actually come to think of it it seems to be running contsantly.

Before I start pulling the thing apart however, I switched the unit off at the wall for half an hour last night just after posting the above and turned it back on again, befor eI went to bed the freezer had frozed the last traces of water that were in it and the fridge was nicely chilled. I got up this morning and the ice has melter again and the fridge it slowly getting warmer.

Re: Admiral Fridge Freezer (side by side)

hi All, thanks for your help so far.

I’ve come in tonight and the freezer actually feels a little warm and the fridge just is’nt cold at all.

Does this point to a defrost heater issue or do you think i’ve caught it during a defrost cycle?

when looking in the freezer from the front the rear panel (virtually from top to bottom) looks like cover unbolts/unscrews, would all the parts I need to check be behind here or do I need to get into the fridge from the back?

    thanks again
