Turns out that 2 wires on the wiring look were loose, 1 was completely off, the other intermittant. Works like a dream now!

I can test the element, I just wondered if there was a known issue relating to the element and the machine running fine until the end of the spin or if ‘test the element’ is just a standard response.

Thanks for the reply, why would the heating element effect it? not questioning the suggestion just interested to know what made you suggest it. How would I test it? If the heating element is fine then what do you think is the problem? I have seen other people have had this issue but not been able to find a solution or explination as to the cause. It wold help if I oculd speak to someone at Hotpoint but they are useless!
