I also have a Diplomat oven whose inner door exploded. It had only been on a short while, preheating before the food went in. Another minute or so it could have blown up in my wife’s face as she put the food in.
The oven is about 9 years old, bought from MFI, so I’m not complaining about it breaking although I don’t think it should have done. The oven has never been abused, is kept clean and never used as a shelf.
What I am concerned about is the manner in which it broke, blasting hot glass from the top and bottom of the door and scattering it all over the kitchen.
I have been quoted just under £100 for a replacement glass. I think I will replace it with a sheet of stainless steel or aluminium, metal doesn’t explode!
I notice kwatt says he has “a LOT of experience with this kind of failure” (Jan 21, 2007). Is he saying it happens a lot? If so shouldn’t the manafacturers have taken this dangerous fault seriously and found a solution.
