Ha Ha!
The culprit has been found. Girlfriend just told me she squirted a dose of Fairy dish liquid into the machine last weekend and it overfoamed…. she was too shamefaced to tell me.
A lesson to us all, methinks.

Happy Ending?
The ADP4500 has been left to dry all week, tipped up at an angle with kick plate removed. We switched it on today, have washed 2 loads and so far (fingers crossed) everything is working OK.
Just wondered if others had had any luck simply ‘drying out’ their machines?

I will give it a go tomorrow. Trouble is, we bought it off my parents as they never had any use for it, and the cost of the new pump is greater than what we paid for the machine.
It might mean we have to bite the bullet and get a new dishwasher.
Nonetheless, I’m impressed by the knowledge base on this website and will certainly be studying it before I make another appliance purchase.

Many Thanks for your reply.
We bailed out the machine and angled it backwards – quite a quantity of water exited the machine from the underneath. I also removed all filters and threw out some of the debris that was in the large reservoir underneath. Is it feasible for me to access the undertray area without too much ado?
Machine is now being left to ‘dry out’ and has been disconnected from power and water. What are the chances of it resurrecting itself if left idle and dry? It’s been a good machine up until now and has made no untoward noises or fault reports.
