    Basicly without going into to much techy stuff, the reason is oil migration into the cappilary tube,oil entering will prevent the flow of refrigerant, allso as the compressor is refrigerant cooled it will cycle on the overload,overheat and eventually burn out.

    I remember when i was in a similar position concerning pork chops,I found that the liberal use of a crowbar usually did the trick however the down side was that i had to buy a new freezer,i now keep my bottles of milk in my neighbours freezer thus avoiding this issue arising in the future. 😉

    Use a hairdryer the milk will be ok due to the core temperature start dryer on ambient air and alternate between heat.
