ParticipantRe: Smartdrive GW508K washing machine prob
Seems to be better now, dont know if it was because something was full of gunk (the pump / hose or something), everytime it rinsed, it came out. BUT I washed 2 lots of clothes today, and surprise, surprise, it turned off after the last spin (finally)! So, after replacing the cold water fill valve, and controller (which probably got fried 4 yrs ago), when one of the earth wires came out of a power point (and the washing machines power point (I would say is connected to it), its all go..for now

Interesting, tried some sheets 2 of them it finished then turned off. BUT, wont turn off if clothes are in it. You have to turn it off once it winds / slows down after the last spin. Sounds like a weight / balance prob maybe??

Dont think the reed switch is the prob.
1: It stops if you lift the lid (it wouldnt otherwise would it)?
2. It does start / go right through to the spin cycle (if the reed switch was the prob, it wouldnt go at all would it)??
There is definitely something bung somewhere. Did a small load of washing, it took 17 mins (from short wash to spin). But, then it spun for the next 33 mins lol.. by the 2nd time (when it started to slow down, there wouldnt have been any water left to spin / come out)

Hmm ok.. Oh well, hopefully, I dont have to pay for it again ! I’ll see what the guy says, when he comes back (hopefully for the last time)! I’m pretty sure (when you used to open the lid), it used to click. But just checked that, and now there’s no click at all

Washing machine seems to be fine now. After replacing the controller. It actually gets to the last cycle (spin) without stopping or turning itself off in the process. Only prob now, once it gets to spin (the final cycle) the damn thing keeps on spinning lol. It wont turn off. Put some clothes in it earlier today, it was fine. .(I started the washing umm like 10.10-15. It started spinning round 10.30/35 am. It sounded like it was powering down (I was waiting for it to go off). BUT then the spinning kept on going till 11.20 lol. In the end I turned it off. So, had to call F&P again. And theyre coming out again tomorrow. To see whats causing it (not to turn off at all)
Sheez !

Hmm F&P came again today, the guy seems to think the controller (the orange thing behind the panel is the prob). So, its going to get replaced. Not too sure what the prob maybe now, as it turned off with clothes in it, but when the tech was here, there was nothing in it, it was fine. He advanced it to rinse, and it went right through the end without turning off. He said it maybe intermittent (the only thing is, it turned itself off 3-4 times previously, but this was also when clothes were in it).

ParticipantRe: GW508K shuts off when its ready to fill/rinse
Ouch, that sounds serious ! Umm what would be the easiest way to do that Penguin?? What would you suggest I check out first?
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Is the motor controller board under / around the drum, I take it? Or is it the board under the panel?

Cool ta Kiwi. Shall ring up and see how much it costs.
Then I’ll see how it goes

ParticipantRe: Kelvinator GW508K Washing machine
Umm well its draining into a tub the end of the drain pipe is just sitting over the edge of the tub…you mean the end of the drain hose thats in the back of the machine??
What pipe?
It seems to be intermittent, the last few days its managed to go right through till the 2nd to last cycle, starts filling for up to 20 mins, then beeps.
As of now, its gone back to beeping during the first / short wash. then it beeps, press start again once it continues to the rinse cycle.
I see at the back of the machine where the dran hose is connected, (its in the bottom), there’s also an opening above it, whats the above one for??
Its meant to be in the bottom one isnt it?? Well its been there since I brought it.

Beep pause beep pause beep.. not continously. Not like when it makes a tune, when you turn it on.
Yup I timed it this arvo, it took from 1.36 to 1.46 to get from short wash (fill/rinse/spin), to the next cycle (rinse).
Do you think the cold tap maybe causing it? Since the washer needs replacing?
The same lights light up (hot and cold) when it beeps. Only diff in the last wash, was it only beeped (on the 2nd to last wash), not during the short wash. Altho, this may or may be the same next time !

ParticipantRe: Kelvinator GW508K Washing machine
Ok well I’ve just put another lot of clothes in.
It hasnt beeped, since it started from short wash to the 2nd last cycle!
I removed the control panel cleaned around in and inside
Removed the lid, to clean the gunk out from the sides
I’ve timed it and:
It takes about
10 minutes from short wash till it agitates
5 mins from agitate till it rinses
4 mins from rinse fill / spin – to the next cycle
Its been filling up for the last 20 mins (2nd to last cycle, it has just beeped). Pressed start / 6 mins filling beeps again. So I advance it, now it spinning

Speaking of the cold tap, I’ve noticed that the tap itself doesnt turn off completely (the hot water does)
Turn the cold tap off completely, water still comes out of it. (as if its still turned on 1/4 of the way), its not just a dribble, its like when you put your finger over the end of a hose. More of a spray.
The washer is probably stuffed or something. Could this be the prob, because the washer need replacing??
Since the cold and hot lights come on, (when it beeps), it sounds like there maybe a lack of water?? Since according to the manual, when these lights light up, its one of the following
The taps have not been turned on. (theyre definitely on, right on)
Inlet hose screens may be blocked. (checked not blocked)
The hoses may be kinked. (Refer to page 5), theyre not kinked in any way. The hoses etc have been as is for the last 10 years ! And the machine has been fine, since up to 2 weeks ago, when it started to beep.
The drain hose is too low or the drain hose is pushed into the standpipe too far and the water is siphoning out of the machine. (See Installations Instructions page 4). Not that I can see
The flow rate of the supply water is too slow. (This maybe a possibilty due to cold water prob above).
I’ve got the washing on now. It still stops and beeps on the first wash (short wash), but once you press start/pause (after it beeps), it continues to fill, then rinses.
Its on its 2nd to last cycle now. During the 2nd to last cycle it starts filling with water, then beeps again. But pressing start/pause again doesnt fix this cycle, it continues beeping and wont go to the last cycle (spin), unless you press advance to make it spin
The cold sounds like its filling OK to me (But maybe not at full speed due to the above)?
With the hot and cold (on the machine end, I know the hot needs the valve thing in it, to stop the water coming out, but both are still meant to have washers (at the machine and the tap ends right)?

ParticipantRe: Kelvinator GW508K Washing machine
Hmm spoke to soon, its fine on the first wash (short wash), goes as far as the 2nd to last wash. Then beeps while its filling up on the 2nd to last wash / cycle.
Doing the diagnotics now, its the same as the previous 4th (slow wash), and 6th. But at least its 1/2 fixed (it goes from short wash to the 2nd to last cycle), without beeping.
I’ll check out this moisture prob. I’ll put the 2nd lot of clothes in see if it goes as far as the 2nd to last cycle as well
Well it stopped.
Umm odd, if you touch the top of the cold water valve (where the cold water is connected to from the tap at the back of the washing machine). after you take the control panel off), should it be hotter than the hot water inlet valve?? Because it is

ParticipantRe: Kelvinator GW508K Washing machine
Hmm surprise surprise. Washing as I type this. It seems to have fixed itself somehow. So far so good. Its near the 2nd to last wash (before the final spin). And has managed not to stop/beep.
The only thing I did yesterday afternoon, was clean the “scrud” from inside the agitator??
Will have to wait till I put the next lot of clothes in to see if it goes right through without stopping

ParticipantRe: Kelvinator GW508K Washing machine
Cool ta Penguin and Phidom!
Well going by the diagnostics on the sticky, reading from the right, the 4th (slow wash), and the 6th (2 cycles after long wash led lights up)
When I hold wash temp down, press power, wait for the 2 beeps, then press spin until hold and spin light up.
That sound right?
