Oven fixed!!!!!
The selector switch was poor as suspected. Managed to trace one on the internet, however when they went to collect it from their store it was gone. I decided to strip the old switch and swap the poor oven element contact for a better contact within the switch and now the oven circuit makes every time. The switch is no longer available, so this appeared to be the only option, although there are some similar looking switches on e-bay, but not worth the risk. The wife is happy as I was told it had to be fixed for Christmas.

Looks like the selector switch is the problem. The switch that appears to contol the oven heating element is not making propoer contact and will only complete the circuit if pressed together manually. I have cleaned the contacts as best I can, howeve there does not appear to be enough “spring” in the contacts to make a positive conection. Now starting to look for a selector switch, however I think this will be as “easy” as looking for the thermostat, that does not now appear to be the problem.

Thanks Martin. Yes it makes sense that if all the other oven components i.e. light and fan are working that the timer is ok. If the thermostat is showing a circuit and the oven element is new and checked as ok, does this point to the switch?

I have checked the thermostat electrical conections, and when turned to the on position there is a circuit which would appear to show the thermostat is ok. I did have a thought that maybe the timer is faulty. I do not get any circuit to the oven heating element when testing continuity, however am I right in thinking that the timer completes the circuit to allow the oven to work manually? I know that the timer has to be set to “manual” after a power cut otherwise the oven does not function, however I’m not sure what the position is when there is no power to allow the clock/timer to complete the circuit to the oven. I have looked at the main control switch and sprayed contact cleaner on the contacts, which now appear to be more positive. Can I by-pass the clock to complete the circuit to the oven?

I have now found the thermal cut out which appears to also link in with the grill, and this is showing ok with a circuit through it. The thermostat appears to be the next possible problem, however it is a discontinued model made by EGO.

Thanks for the info Martin. I will take the new one out when i have a bit of time. I have however tested the old one and that gives a resitance reading of 28 ohm, which would indicate that it is ok apart from having a split in the outer casing. Guess it was best to replace it any way, but this would now point to a seperate issue. I will look for the thermal cut out. Will this be obvious if it has gone?

How do I test the new element? I have a multi-meter.There are only two cable spade connections at the back, and I’m sure I got these the right way round – no earth, although there is a tag for one. Where would I find the in-line thermal cut out? I assume that this would be somewhere round the back and inside the outer casing.
