    Hi Bangers,

Your fridge design is the same as ours.
We didn’t realise this is such a poor design until we installed the kitchen – by then too late because it was all bought and paid for.
It is something we would look out for in any future integrated fridge purchase. Now, like you, the salad bins are wasted space.

Re: Indesit WIL103 – possible replacement

    Dear all,

Thanks for the replies. Certainly food for thought.
Hopefully I won’t have to decide for a while yet as it seems my wife and I will argue over which replacement model to buy (assuming we have the money around us to have a choice).

Re: Indesit WIL103 – possible replacement

    Thanks for the advice.
I think this is a great site and I feel feedback is useful for other innocents like me.
Our machine has gone back to it’s normal self before I could intervene so fingers crossed for a while yet. (My wife didn’t wait for me to investigate which was lucky for me because I wasn’t sure how I’d recognise the heater… told you a total innocent!)
I have a follow up question though, and I don’t mean to upset anyone about machine quality etc:
When looking at replacement machines, Lewis’s had an Indesit for £276 delivered even after paying for a 5 year guarantee.
To the uninitiated this seems cheap even if it has to be disposed of after the 5 years. The cheapest Bosch was £399 for the 5 year guarantee and this site suggests that ‘low end’ Bosch machines may be of ‘similar’ quality to the Indesit. Other posts also suggest that Bosch machines are not immune from problems.
After the guarantee my wife’s immediate reaction will be to replace any machine in case of failure anyway – despite it being unfriendly to the environment. The cost of repairs makes a new machine seem cheaper.
If I had gone down the replacement route would the Indesit have been a total mistake even at that price? I’d appreciate your feedback – thanks

    Hi Cockney Steve,
Thanks to you and all who helped before – your advice gave me the confidence to go ahead and change the thermostat.
This site is a great find.
(I had to fight my wife to do it – she wanted a new fridge which we can ill afford).

I appreciate the advice about the interference too. I didn’t actually think it was the thermostat but the fact I mentioned it shows a certain lack of confidence in what I’d done. All resolved now – cheers.

    Re: Schreiber APM 6321

    Dear all,
Thank you for your help – the thermostat is now fitted and the fridge is working again. But I have a left over part and would appreciate your advice:
The new thermostat came with a nut, and although I could see where it might fit, couldn’t see the purpose. Anyway we didn’t notice the nut on the old thermostat until all had been reinstalled into the kitchen unit. It’s sole purpose seems to retain a ‘clip’ onto the edge of the thermostat body but the clip seems also to have no purpose. Am I ok to leave the fridge without the nut and clip?

NB. Installing the thermostat was confusing at first because the original thermostat had additional connectors – 1 of which the earth was attached to. But the connectors were numbered as on the replacement so it was easy to marry the wires up to the same numbered connectors. There were 2 “lugs” on the side of the new thermostat so the earth was connected to one of them. There seems to be a little more interference on the radio when the fridge door is opened, but otherwise all is fine.

    Thanks again.

    Re: Schreiber APM 6321

Can anyone help with this please?

All I need to know is if the thermostat can be easily swapped out.
If not I’ll call someone to come out.

(My wife’s not keen on me taking it out of the units unless I know I can fix it)

Alternatively does anyone know where I can get a technical instruction manual – I haven’t found one on the net

    Thanks

    Pete

    Re: Schreiber APM 6321

    Hi Kwatt,
    Thanks for the quick reply.

Can anyone help with the other part of my question please?
Is the repair something I should try – never having looked at the fridge before and having no drawings etc – or should I pay for help.

BTW. My wife has been playing and now the temperature control switch doesn’t even switch the fridge off – it definitely did before!
I’m guessing it won’t matter if the thermostat works…..

    Thanks again, all help appreciated.

    Pete
