    Re: ISE AW23 VERY noisy

Some very interesting and valid points, and a lot of questions answered by the link, thanks.
You are right that regardless of what ‘we’ve’ done with the machine when it stops working the shouting is going to be ‘incorrectly’ aimed at the thing that isn’t working any more…..and it’s its fault that the Lego man has been on another swimming trip, or it’s in fact the machines fault for extracting the underwire out a bra.
The washing mashine in general probably has the hardest life of the household appliances, being abused by owners cramming too much in, adding 43p of loose change and a Lego Man then asking it to spin this all round together with a load of water as fast as the car engine spinning its bits round and all nice and quietly in the kitchen with no routine maintenance, MOT, or annual service.
I guess I’m unfortunately from a generation that can remember my parents ‘whitegoods’ lasting forever, I remember 3 washing machines in 30 years, 2 freezers and they are still on the original oven.
But anyway….the machine has been collected and with a bit of luck will be back washing away next week…..lets hope I get at least another 2 years from it. 🙂

    Re: ISE AW23 VERY noisy

I’ve just watched too much daytime TV ‘Watchdog’ telly. 😉
I guess it boils down to how many ‘cycles’ you think is an acceptable ammount for a ‘machine’ to last, I was hoping to get more than 500 out of a £400 machine but I guess I was wrong, and next time I’ll listern to the Mrs and buy the cheapest one in the shop, they all appear to be a similar size and fit the same so fitting is easy enough, and a scrap man drives down the street once a week collecting scrap so getting rid of the old one isn’t an issue.
Who knows, maybe it’s just bad luck, maybe after this repair it’ll last forever, maybe it’ll last the 6 months the warrenty on the new bits is…..who knows.
On the car analogy I’d expect a bit of ‘goodwill’ from the manufacturer or at least for them to respond to the complaint, if just to say ‘sorry’ and ‘you should have bought the extended warrenty’….but I don’t like gambling on ‘bad luck’.
And who knows maybe Curry’s finest £170 washing machine will replace it and last a lifetime, it just seems a bit of a lottery, and I see ISE no longer sell a machine at this price point, so maybe the engineer that refered to it as a rebadged Beko may have a point and I’ll pay Skoda money next time instead of Audi.

    Re: ISE AW23 VERY noisy

Yes it’s level, and the bearings have been confirmed by the service team from the ISE dealer who came out to it last week.
The original instaler wasn’t the sharpist knife in the box, but didn’t do a bad job of fitting it and I wouldn’t really expect him to have a working knowledge of every type of sink fitting availabe.
Now it just the waiting, they can’t collect it until Friday and who knows when it will come back….and how long it’ll last.
I have sent ISE an email regarding how I feel (I currently have too much time on my hands watching daytime telly, so am up to speed on consumer rights, and ‘fit for purpose’) but they have yet to respond and I’m not holding my breath, but I do know they arent getting any more of my money….sod the planet it’s going to landfill next time.

    Re: ISE AW23 VERY noisy

The price for thebits isn’t too bad, and the labour costs are abouttwha I expecting after reading how much of a pig of a job it is.
The current lead time with the engineer is a bit of a headache but that can’t be helped, my biggest dissapointment is the fact that the bearings have died after only 2 1/2 years of quite light domestic use.
I talked my Mrs round to paying the extra for the ISE over a Beko,LG,Samsung, etc on the understanding it ‘should’ last a bit longer, turns out £410 wasn’t enough to guarentee more life than that, and now £150 to fix it.
When Currys can sell a new machine for £170 if it dies the day after the warrenty runs out I’d still be in profit, bit of a shame about the increase in landfill but ISE don’t appear to be worth the extra from where I’m sitting. 🙁

Well an engineer has been called, seems a bit of a faff, and can’t get out to even look at it until next week, but just to make sure he doesn’t have my pants down is this the sort of price I should be looking at for bearings…..

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Now I’m no expert but I do think the light issue may be linked to one of the other issues.
Mine has recently been repaired by Brodders, I’ve had every failure going until it gave up working completely.
It probalby took about 2 years from first ‘click’ issue to complete failure but knowing what I know now I’d fix it sooner rather than later. 😉
A year or so ago my freezer light went ‘pop’ tried the one out the fridge and it didn’t work so I just left it, now the unit is repaired I tried swapping them over again and now it works.
I just need to get a new bulb now…..which leads to my question……
The bulds advertised for the ‘american’ whirlpool are £15 and 40w rated where as every other bulb with what looks like the same fitting but rated at 20w are about £2
Will the cheap bulb fit and ‘just be a bit dimmer’ or is it me being dimmer and there’s more to it than that?

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Well after years of clicking, funny noises, ice and water failures, and then finally a complete ability to freeze failure my Whirlpool has been saved from the dreaded landfill and is back in A1 condition with everything working thanks to Brodders (John)
He went out of his way not only to make the ‘not that short’ trip last weekend to fit the ‘standard fix’ capacitors, which in my case failed to completely solve the failure, returning to pick up the front and rear boards, testing them back at his Whirlpool bat cave repair centre, finding the extra faults that were causing the unit to ‘not get cold’ returning once again ‘back down south’ and fitting the boards which 24 hours later appear to be a complete 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} back to ‘as new’ repair, we have no noises, we have ice, we have a smooth delivery of chilled water, and most importantly of all frozen food! 😀

So top marks to Brodders for going above and beyond the call of duty to keep another Whirlpool working away and not filling a big hole in the ground.
I hope what has been learned from my failures and what was needed to be replaced to get it back to life helps someone elses unit to be repaired and saved from the landfill.
It always seemed a shame to look at throwing away a perfectly good unit because £20 worth of electrical components had failed.

    Brodders you’re a top man, if you’ve got a problem with a Whirlpool he’s your man. 8)

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

well I’m thoroughtly confussed with mine now. 😯

After a great visit from Brodders, (John) where at the start of the vist my whirlpool was as dead as a dodo, and had been swiched off for a few days, after he’d worked his magic a new set of caps had been fitted front and back and all looked good. 🙂
The unit powered up, the water dispenser worked, there was no pulsing, no clicking, no strange noises at all and the temp was going down.
The ice unit appeared not to be working but we put htis down to no signs of life from the infa-red unit on the sides.
Anyway, as per the manual the unit hit -18 after about 3 hours, all my food was living in a borrowed chest freezer so after letting the unit sit at -18 for an hour or so, I loaded it up and popped a little ‘new’ food in as well, this dropped the temp and it took over night to get back to -18, during this time I kept checking to make sure the food (my control item was an ice cube tray) was still frozen and all was looking good.
I woke up this morning to find the freezer sat happily at -18, took a bottle of milk out the fridge, did the usual breakfast jobs, and the temp had dropped, it never regained temp, did the usual checks, but then at about 5ish I noticed the ice creams in the freezer looked like mush and the ice was now water. 🙁
Saved as much food as possible back into the chest freezer and popped the ice cube tray in there on it’s own
The temp has been flashing — all day, it’s never hit -18
The water in the ice cube tray did start to freeze but has now gone back to water.
I’m thoroughly confused as to what the thing is doing and just hope someone has an idea of what to try next?

The plus side is the unit is no longer making any clicking noises…. 😳

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Currently borrowed an old freezer, and looking for a fridge so I can start to attack the Whirlpool, god I’d love to really attack it with something….. 😉

I’m based in Mansfield, North Nottinghamshire.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Well I think mines past the repair stage now. 🙁
Have lived with the lack of water, ice, clicking etc for over a year now, really should have done something about it and last night it’s died.
The freezer display refuses to go down to temp and it’s making no noise except the ‘not down to temp’ beep. 😕
The fridge side seems fine. :rolls:

Is it just the next stage of the Whirlpool saga, is it still fixable, was in the process of running the food levels down and sourceing a standby unit so I could get it fixed but is it now too late? 😥

Re: Recommend me a new washing machine

Well after weighing up the pros and cons I was all set to put my money in to the local economy and buy an ISE but then my trusty old nail of a machine sprang back into life and did a whole weekends washing perfectly. :rolls:
When it does fail, and it will, I’m going ISE, the retailer is a few miles away, the installer appears to live at the end of my street so any problems I’ve got a door to knock on. 😉

Re: Recommend me a new washing machine

Yeah, I looked at the list and one of the dealers was about a mile away, unfortunatly he didn’t have the model I was interested in in stock, he didn’t even know it existed actually and could only get a price and lead time after phoning the supplier.
Theres 2 more that are visit-able so they are getting a call tomorrow, but if I can’t get to see one I might have to go with the current favourite a Bosch. 8)

Well I’m going off the Panny, but the ISE seems a little hard to track down, local dealer wasn’t exactly the last word in helpfull, could get one special order but only if I’m buying it which is a none starter I’m not buying anything I haven’t seen in the flesh, will try and see if I can find one within a reasonable drive but failing that Bosch are looking good. 😕

Re: Recommend me a new washing machine

If they did have a latch it was very well hidden. 😳
The ISE is growing on me rapidly though, I like their principles on the website, I haven’t read anything bad about them yet and I especially like the fact the nearest dealer is on my local highstreet about a mile away and I love the fact they have nothing to do with the big retail park players. 😀
Just need to go and have a look at one in the flesh and get over my attraction to the Panasonic design. 😳
