Unfortunately, my solution was a temporary one. After two good days it started playing up again and I searched for the fault code and got heater element as the likely fault. That sealed the fate of the machine because it was not worth the cost since it was almost 13-15 years old (and the family was getting tired of my DIYing). Out it went and a new Siemens IQ500 came in its place and it has warranty for 5 years and motor waranty for 10 years. It is very quiet and runs great. Hopefully I am spared the problem for another ten years atleast. I am sorry, I have not had the time to upgrade this information in the original thread.

OK now I have used it in real wash cycle with clothes, both in 60 degrees quick wash and 40 degrees quick wash. No problem what so ever. I am really pleased. I was about to buy a new one for 700 Euros but now I can use that money on some thing else. All you guys with old AEG lavamat that stops in mid cycle, please try this before you change your washer.

OK, there is another thread in this forum where some one has nailed down the problem to a dirty main circuit board that is covered by carbon soot that some how locks the programme (stuck in time) and the clock does not move any further. I had the same problem and after reading his thread I opened the top cover of the machine and after locating and cleaning the circuit board (with CB cleaner or spirit), I re assembeled it and it is working fine. Find that thread because it has pictures too of the circuit board.

Just ran an empty short wash cycle at 60 degrees C with dish washer detergent to clean the machine and it worked perfectly, going through the main wash, rinse and spin cycles without a hitch. The timer count down (which would earlier get stuck ) did its job well. Tomorrow we are going to try the 50 degrees and 40 degrees cycle with real clothes. Thanks again for this post. There are lot of people with these AEG machines with the same problem and have either bought new ones or they have paid heavily to a technician, who probably changed the circuit board, after changing many other things. The interesting bit is that when I tried to find a error code by pressing two buttons and turning the knob one way, I got E61 as the error code and I thought that I had problem with the heater element or sensor and was about to throw out this machine untill I read this article/post here. These machines are other wise built like a tank (and are heavy too). Thanks again.

Thanks for this post. I had exactly the same problem with my AEG oko lavamat washer after 13 years and followed your instruction. I have yet to test it. The circuit board was in exactly the same condition as yours. Cleaned it with circuit board cleaner fluid. Incidently the top cover in these machines are slided bacwards after removing the two screws at t he rear. I Will post a new message if it works on test.
