Well the fault increased to the point where it could be fairly regularly reproduced. There seems to be a point of rough travel just before the off position of the main oven control. When crossing that the timer would cut to auto mode & start flashing. So it seemed a reasonable diagnosis. I didn’t realise there was two parts to the control though.
But having said that, there is no sign of anything in front of the thermostat & all of the connections are on the thermostat itself, as can be seen in my pic. The top oven control however does seem to have something resembling the switch in front of it, which doesn’t match your diagram. So I’m a bit baffled by that unless it’s just a design change.
But it looks like I need a thermostat rather than the switch. But while I have it disassembled I may as well see if it’s serviceable.

Thanks. Terminology always an issue in these circumstances!
Maybe I have the correct part after all. The thermostat does seem to have two screws going through to the switch, but the switch again looks different. Parts 117 & 118 on your diagram, but I’d assumed it was a single part as there are no separate connections to the switch. I’ve hopefully attached a pic of the original setup.
Serial no. is 504140051.
Does the symptom described suggest one part rather than the other in your experience?

Thread resurrection.
Decided it was the controller so ordered a replacement (6201383). Now I have the cooker in bits, the parts are different. The original part is ET51001/J5.
Can anyone advise if this is just a replacement design or do I have the wrong part? If the former, can anyone help with wiring as the terminals are labelled differently. The original also seems to have a bare wire in red sleeving attached to the body.

Thanks but I have no idea how to gain access to it.

Thanks Dave.
I’m not sure about the supply although it did first happen after the kitchen was refitted & a new supply run from the consumer unit. But is was quite some time after. It also appears that a momentary break in supply isn’t enough, it needs a break of around 5s before the clock cuts out. I’ll have to open the fused switch & check out the connections.
The only other instance of this I could find online also suggested bridging the timer. But that thread was four years old & the OP never updated. Do you have a link to a PDF manual showing access to the timer please?
I only use the timer as a countdown & not for any automated actions, so bridging it wouldn’t have any impact on use.

Well just in case it helps anyone else:
I pulled it down again to check the fridge temperature sensor, which it turns out is a thermistor. That’s the white sleeved cable with the two pin connector. With the fridge pretty cold & it disconnected from the PCB it was reading 6.8k?. Just with the door off, it started dropping. Went down a couple of hundred ? in about a minute so this seems like correct behaviour.
On that basis I bit the bullet & ordered a controller PCB & that seems to have done the job. Total cost including RMSD was under £50. 😀

OK, perhaps someone else would like to chip in as it looks like the OP isn’t around.
Mine’s getting worse & actually freezing stuff in the fridge so I’ve got to act. Two more symptoms from mine:
When set to the zero position, the compressor &/or fan continues to run. All that happens is the fridge light goes off.
When set to Super (max) the compressor & light sometimes briefly switch off & on again. If left in this position this randomly repeats every 10-20 seconds. Backing down from this position, the compressor stops but then immediately starts again.
My guess is that this behaviour must be the controller module as a duff sensor shouldn’t cause the compressor to run when set to zero. So my choices are to buy a controller PCB & hope for the best or pay Hoover their £129 fixed repair fee & let them sort it. Controller seems to be £60 from the only source I’ve found so far so I’d be gambling on maybe saving £70.
So does anyone have a resource to show me how to change the controller or have an alternative plan? I’m in Colchester.

Did you ever sort this as mine is doing exactly the same?
