Hi all
Checked the stat function. It seemed to be ok. Machine was run with a full load.
IT BEHAVED ITSELF !!
Total work over 3 or 4 sessions.
A full clean of drainage system – filters pipe and spigot into domestic waste)
A full clean of the rotors and water circulation circuits.
A clean (as best I could) of the fill matrix behind the LHS panel
A replacement of the broken neutral lead to the water valve solenoid
A new element
The machine tipped fully forward to displace air locks in the fill/drain circuits

Thanks Penguin45.
I suspect that this is a basic machine (Hygena / Brandt 8224). I suspect it only has one temp setting for two heated wash cycles. There appears to be a stat protuding into the wash cavity – to the right hand side – just below the element.
Any idea if spares are available.

I suspect you’ve put your figure on it. I will check the thermostat. The old element was well cooked – black and swollen (but still working – for how long?). I was wondering why the stat had not protected it from over heating – unless of course it had gone faulty ie permanent closed circuit.

Hi All.
Back to the Hygena.
I took the side panel off to check that it was filling and lifting the level sensor. It did and I started it off from the longest wash cycle. From time to time I stopped it and checked that the heating element wasn’t over heating. It wasn’t – so you are correct the water level doesn’t have to cover the element – so long as it’s circulating and taking the heat away.Unfortunately it seems to stick in ‘hot water circulation mode’ about 3/4 through the second wash cycle and again in the same mode about 10 mins into the third was cycle (the economy one).
I helped it along manually and it picked up again.
Is this a timer problem eg a missing tooth to a cog, a bad contact or a dodgy semiconductor on the PCB?Getting there with your help!! So far only TLC a replacement wire and a new element!

Thanks Penguin 45.
Found a broken neutral wire behind door hinge as you guessed. Also found circuit diagram in pocket behind door!! I fitted a new element (which I bought on the assumption your diagnosis was correct!). Machine started and filled. Well done. HOWEVER – it doesn’t fill above the raised section of the element. I suspect I still have the problem that led to a blackened element. How do I adjust the fill to the correct level?
