Re: Electrolux Fridge Freezer – Fridge Problem

defrost timers don’t cost the earth
My frost free fridge freezers been playing up lately. Fridge not getting cold, but freezer is very cold. So happens that because the defrost timer wasn’t working my freezer fins were freezing up and consequently the hole behind it wasn’t getting a feed of cold air to supply my fridge. To actually determine whether my defrost heater element worked, I just rotated my faulty defrost timer’s manual dial until it ‘clicked’ and my compressor stopped humming. Waited and listened for the tissing sounds of water hitting the heating element which indicated the heater was at least doing what it was supposed to. As for the thermostat; once the freezer was completely defrosted and cleared of ice, enough cool air would have been able to circulate into the fridge compartment to chill it to the required temperature to enable it to turn off the compressor when cold enough (therefore, indicating that this too worked fine). To clarify that my defrost timer wasn’t kicking in regularly I just inserted a pencil and marked one side of it. After several hours, I noticed the mark was in the same position as I had originally left it, which indicated to me that the timer had stopped functioning as a timer as it should have rotated the pencil. Hope you enjoyed my masterclass in fault finding.
