Well after a good clean and change of thermostats it is now running as it should 😀

nearly got stuck trying to get the bloody thing back together though!

Not sure about the leak tbh, it used to be from back but hubby messed about with sealant and was fine for a yr, then started leaking from the front.

I’ve reviewed the sound again and its not actually that loud, more of a whirling noise, just louder compared to my old one. Think I’ll take the back off and give it a good clean, then try what you said if I can. Think my dad has a meter, could get him round at the wkend.
