Turns out it was an open circuit in the element. Service techo visited and replaced element in 30 mins ($190 for part + $130 for labour + tax).
But now the electic hob hotplate gets a bit too hot, even on setting 1.

That would mean an international flight… Melbourne Australia.
You’re welcome to come on down, but thanks for offering. I think I’ve found a Rosieres service agent within an hour’s drive, but I just wanted to see what simple checks I might perform, to accurately identify the problem/solution. You guys seem to know your stuff very well.

Thanks Bryan. It seems difficult to get to the element terminals as the cooker is quite firmly installed. It has large copper gas fitting and so would need an authorised gas fitter to help get to the back panel for access to the terminals. I undid the element’s 3 hex screws, but there appears little ‘give’ in dragging the element forward into the oven space to get to the terminals from inside. This is why I metered the spade connectors on the switch itself, hoping that one side of the element was ground, and the other side available on the switch – somewhere. So I read ~23 ohm just about everywhere, which could have been either the top grill element or the oven element at back. No connectors appeared to be open circuit to ground which gives me hope that the element is OK. 240V/240V/23=2500W, which sounds about right. I could restore power to the cooker and metered V on some of those terminals, but just a little nervous about that because the terminals are very close to each other and there appears to be no isolation between them.

Fan-boosted oven. Still can’t find serial number.

Thanks for the quick reply. Not sure where to find the S.No. Bottom right has a decal with model and power wiring connection guide. Opposite side has paper sticker with model and a number like 90510517.
