Re: Bosch SGS45C02GB fills then makes clicking noise

Quick update on the situation. I removed all panels to inspect the dishwasher internals again. Cannot see any issues with corrosion or connections on the front panel. Tipping the dishwasher 45 degrees failed to get it started again so I put it on its side. Water came out from somewhere when I did this although the lower panel (drip tray/flood alarm) was bone dry.

There could be a minor leak near the clear plastic tubing on the left on side but it’s a drip rather than a flood. A lot more water (I’d say a cupful or two) is coming out only when I put it on its side. After righting the dishwasher and trying to start it was clicking again, so I’m wondering if something is shorting hence the control panel clicking. When its clicking I cannot do a reset.

After some time I was able to do a reset and get it started up again. If there is a short maybe it drained or dryed out? Are there any obvious places to look for such a leak? As I said, although water comes out when its on its side I cannot see from where it is coming.

Losing patience with this due to the time I’ve spent on it and will buy a new one if I cannot get this fixed quickly.

Thanks again for all your input and suggestions.

Replaced the impeller jug which was quite an easy swap. Thought that had sorted it as the dishwasher seemed to be running OK. However tonight after three cycles it failed to start after fill as before. Tried to reset using the control dial but it wouldn’t go through the reset. Moving the dial to other settings the timer updates and then back to resent it goes to a count of 18 and then just starts/stops attempting to fill as before.

Could the problem be with the controller board itself? I’ve not take the front panel off yet for inspection so will do that in the morning. Everything seems to be working OK when it starts up. However, as it only runs for a few cycles (at best) before stopping does that indicate any particular problem?

    Thanks again.

I was too hopeful about the problem being resolved. It has reverted to the problem with the fill valve starting and stopping during fill. The control panel is clicking before, the valve opens for a short time, then closes. The dishwasher ran for several days before running into this problem again. I removed the anti-flood float valve so I know that is not at fault.

To bring this matter to a conclusion and for the benefit of any others with similar problems I found the root cause and the dishwasher is now working.

There is an anti-flood device which consists of a polystyrene float, a catch tray (pressed into the lower cover) and a micro-switch. The catch tray was furred with what looked like detergent/limesale crystals and was also corroded in parts. This raised the surface of the catch tray pushing up the float and triggering the switch. I guess the tilting probably dislodged the material sufficiently to release the switch (sometimes). I guess moisture and temperature could have been a factor too (the bottom panel is quite flimsy).

After cleaning out the tray of debris and using an abrasive pad I put it all back together and so far so good. The float is so light that any debris that gets down there could cause it to trigger the switch.

After some tilting of the unit 45 degrees to each side and back followed by a reset it started again. Aside from the previous clicking noise I could see the fill hose vibrating as the pressure changed from fill/on to off. Could there be a problem with the fill valve itself? It’s almost as if it’s not staying open and the control board is sending a signal to open. Maybe worth a swap out as they are not so expensive? Once the machine is running everything seems fine.
