Thanks for the replies. I did look at the forums first and found that the 8 flashes means

“Heater relay cannot be activated”

– but I also heard that the error codes are unreliable for the indesit. Given that the rest of the cycle worked I thought it more likely to be a problem expelling water at this point, i.e. a problem with the pump. Isn’t the heater relay used at other points in the cycle?
