Thanks guys, you were spot on, the relay fixed it. Slightly gutted I didn’t do a web search on the relay part number, they are only £8.

Thanks for the guidance, Plug Top OK, Power Ok to machine even when motor stops. Relay pulls in when start button pushed then after a while drops out and motor stops. Sometimes it will restart straight away but mostly a wait is required. Is this just a power relay for the moror? or is it more complex? do i need to check the supply to the relay coil? I guess its somehow self latching.
