Well I took the bottom off the machine and found the twin pumps . The one on the left , when opened, had a small nylon clothes tag stuck in it with threads tied round it ! Put it all back together and it’s still making the noise when the pump is working . I am presuming months of working with this foreign body in it has damaged it and I need to replace it ? I will order one and try . Thanks again to all who replied 🙂

Fantastic ! Thank you all, in particular electrofix :))) I am a happy woman ! It is indeed the recirculation pump. I am going to find out what is wrong and if it needs to be replaced I will do the job myself, with the help of online videos . Ha ha , watch this space 🙂 I have read all the safety precautions and have an electrician friend to call on if I get stuck .

Thank you for your replies . I will look at the recirculation pump in the morning, thank you for that . The warranty issue is not surprising as 10 years is indeed a long time to guarantee anything mechanical . The fact that the machine displays a large sticker on the front of it advertising this fact did lead me to believe it would be honoured without further cost to myself . I suppose this was too much to expect . This is my second LG direct drive machine and the first survived trouble free for about six years and was superb . For this reason , I replaced it with the updated model . I am willing to pay the £130 to have the machine repaired but I have contacted three repair engineers locally and all have declined to even come to look at an LG ! Having had four other makes of washing machine, I would pick the LG again as it has been much more reliable than any of the others. I will keep you posted for future reference 🙂
