Found PCB track burnt out at the relay. Have read the other notes about this common problem and am surprised that Zanussi hasn’t made some statement about the design – it’s clearly not up to the job.

I have soldered a mains gauge wire between the relay and the edge connector and will keep an eye on it (I have noted that others have got hot and burnt).

    Thanks again for the help!

Hmm you might wana read what the experts had to say above.
if you beef up the back of the board too much you will just move the problem to either another part of the board or another part of the machine.
IMHO just resolder then if it wants to go again it wont be any worse than the original failure.

do you have any idea of the cost or availability of a new pcb ?
and have the new ones been improved ?

    Re: Zanussi DE 6854 Problem

i have re soldered it in exactly the same way that zanussi did when they made the pcb (i have not added any bridging etc) just re soldered.
so if it goes again it should just melt the solder away as it did originally.

    but what a poor design
a relay switching a 2000 watt heating element should be right next to the heater not about 4ft of wire away.

    Re: Zanussi DE 6854 Problem

after searching through other posts on here i have found a burnt relay pole on the pcb
it looks like zanussi under estimated the current draw
i have re soldered it and all is now working again
