Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Hi there,

New to the forum but really hoping someone can help.

Just moved house and specifically negotiated to keep the Whirlpool Fridge Freezer cos it looked snazzy! Little did I know that it would have the problems described on this board and it would no doubt cost me an arm and a leg at the worst possible time!!!

Anyway, the model is S20B RSB21-A/G with the service codes being 858615115001 and 110341015970. I don’t seem to have the worst of the problem but I am getting the following symptoms:

– Both Freezer and Fridge temperature lights flashing – although temperature in both appears to be keeping the food safe.
– Clicking along with the flashing lights and also when the ice maker tries to do something…
– Ice-maker does not work at all, no ice is created, however, water is obviously connected as the water dispenser works. It is not that cold but it doesn’t spurt it is a steady flow – albeit not that strong.

Obviously I would like to avoid an expensive service charge and so in order of preference I guess I would like to:

a) To go home and it be working and never to have the problem again – “wishful thinking”!
b) Get them to fix it for free by using my excellent negotiation skills – “fat chance”!
c) Fix it myself using my limited electronics skills – “unlikely”
d) Get a warranty that doesn’t cost too much and get them to fix it under that – “maybe”
e) Pay to get it fixed – “expensive”!

If anyone could offer advice as to how to achieve a-c then please advise. Also, if anyone has experience of the same problem and could give an indication as to whether this is likely to develop into a bigger problem i.e. warm fridge / freezer it would be much appreciated.
