Re: Candy Tumble Dryer not heating

just a final note to anyone reading this. After buying a new PCB, i received and installed it on monday night. Great – working as normal. OK, so it cost me £71 (with expensive overseas shipping), but all-in-all a very positive outcome.

Thanks to all those who took time to offer advice, especially Ivan who sent me an email with all the similar steps he had taken with the same problem.

And thanks as well to whitegoods for not ripping me off on parts or postage. Its good to see that there are still companies out there who are content to make an honest living rather than taking advantage of frustrated DIY-ers trying to fix household machines.

Now with confidence high, i’ll just wait to see what breaks next….

ha ha, you read my mind – just ordered a new pcb (from whitegoods) about 20 minutes ago. Will see if this does the trick!

Re: Candy Tumble Dryer not heating

OK, just tested final (internal) NTC sensor. Its fine. In fact its the same model as the front one, so took both off to compare. Both giving exactly the same readings, about 20Kohms in the palm of the hand.
So if all 4 heating sensors are OK (2 NTC, 1 thermostat & 1 thermal fuse), heating element is OK, drum turns fine, air blowing fine, water pumping OK… anybody got any ideas why its not heating?

Re: Does a NTC sensor prevent the heater from working?

    Hi Martin,

thanks for getting back to me. As you said, i was given expert advice which i duely took on board and spent a good bit of time last night re-testing the stats as advised. But nothing new to report, only narrowing down the possible options.

however, as you can see from the thread above, the front NTC sensor is tested and OK. Its the NTC sensor inside the machine that i haven’t tested yet. As i said above, i assume this measuring outgoing air. However, if i use a timed cycle as opposed to an automatic one, would this sensor still be used?

sadly i don’t know how to add the wee faces, but if there was one saying ‘i’m not trying to mess you about, i’m just trying to get it fixed before my missus finally cracks up with me’, consider it added.

Does a NTC sensor prevent the heater from working?

    Hello,

i have a problem with my tumble dryer that it is not heating. To avoid the long story in my other post, here’s the short version.

All thermostats, heater and NTC sensors are tested and working correctly, EXCEPT the NTC sensor located inside the machine, i assume measuring the temperature of the air leaving the condensor. If this isn’t working, will it prevent the heater working?

Thanks for any tips before i have to dismantle the whole machine.

    Shaun.

Re: Candy Tumble Dryer not heating

Hello. For now i have checked the front NTC sensor as you’ve described. Its OK. But haven’t checked the second one inside the machine, below the drum. Do you think if this has gone it will stop the heater from working?

In fact, when i checked the stats & heater element, I wasn’t 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure with the reading so i took it into the engineering department at work. And it was there that one of the electricians had a lighter under it before i had time to say ‘one shot fuse’. Saying that, it did regain continuity shortly after when it cooled down.

When you say to change the element, are you talking about just the overheat stat or the whole heating system (heater + 2 stats?)

OK, Dave, just took off the back cover and disconnected the heater. Re-checked the two heating elements and the stats – all OK.

After I also took out the condensor, poured a glass of water into the back reservoir to check if the sensor and water pump were all OK. As soon as i turned it on, no heat but the water was pumped into the main reservoir.

The only sensor i haven’t checked is the internal NCT one. I’d really like to avoid this if possible as it’s a good bit of dismantling, etc.

    Any other ideas? Please?
