ParticipantRe: Sandy residue on clothes after washing
How quickly is that likely to break? Is it worth fixing or will it be time to find a new machine?

ParticipantRe: Sandy residue on clothes after washing
I’m thinking it’s more residue washed out of the clothes, but that the water isn’t draining freely enough for the grit to be removed. I have a young son who plays in the sand pit at nursery every day, so I’m willing to guess that’s adding to it.
Now that I think about it, about a month ago, before I noticed any residue, there was one time when I took clothes out of the machine and there was a bit of water still sloshing around in the drum. I did another rinse cycle and it was gone, but perhaps that’s related?

No, I wouldn’t say it’s any noisier than usual. Just regular spinning noise, not any grinding sounds.

Here’s a photo of the residue on a towel. The shadow is from my phone, which gives you a bit of an idea of scale (it’s about as wide as my iPhone). The dots are definitely the size of the holes in the drum.
It’s a bit hard to get off of the towel, but when it’s on a flatter piece of material, I can often brush a good deal of it off, so it’s not dirty grease marks.

We bought a Fisher & Paykel and it was broken on arrival. 🙁 I understand this is probably rare, but their customer service since then has been terrible. In fact, it’s so atrocious that I’m cancelling the order with the retailer. The retailer has been as helpful as possible and are now doing their best to find me another product that isn’t Fisher & Paykel.
