Re: Smeg SUK91MFX5 Fan oven won’t heat up. PCB?

    Allsorts,
I’m measuring it with a KewTech Voltmeter, which is reading 230 volts across the two wires with the element removed. It does this for both the elements. I’m well aware that current is not measured in volts, but there is definitely a supply to the wires which lead to the element.

Farmerguy How can it pass volts but not current? is that even possible? i think it’s a problem with the switching and controlling of the power to the elements, I can only think that the PCB does some sort of wizardry that would make the oven heat up.

Cheers for the interest lads. Kwatt, thank you very much.
I’m afraid that it’s definitely not the elements. they’ve been continuity tested and passed, I also tried a new one just in case. There’s definitely something in between the nobs and the elements that’s not right.
Seems like a PCB change will be my first COA, having heard it bandied about in quite a few places. If that fails it will be the overheat thermostat. There aren’t really that many things in this chain!

    KWATT,

Thank you very much, and I apologise for posting multiple messages. I’m new to this, and as the other threads were all old I was hoping to gain the benefit of their experience.

Also, thank you for posting the link to that spare part on this site. It is over £90 other places, much more reasonable through this site.

Could I ask, do you think that is the most likely cause, and have you had any experience of this problem? i seems to be fairly common on here and other places on the internet. The PCB seems the most likely cause, but I can’t find anyone definitively stating that replacing it has worked for them.

    Regards
