Thanks Lee8 that is a great help, I’m confident that armed with this information I should be able to solve the problem.

Greg just to put the record staright before taking the lid off I did check the obvious and disconnected the appliance from the mains as any sensible person technical or not would. Please try not to be so condescending just because we aren’t qualified domestic appliance engineers doesn’t mean we are completely thick. ❗
