Re: mosfets for f&p washer…
Hi Fred, I am based in New Zealand where the Smartdrive Machine was developed by Fisher & Paykel (F&P). I was involved in the repair of the Smartdrives until 1998 and then I taught myself the repair of the motor Control Modules that you are speaking about. I now rebuild those modules for 10 medium sized washing machine repair companies in Auckland city here in NZ. Ok thats my background. In answer to your Question yes the Irf840 Hexfet is the correct component and all Irf840’s are suitable. The Irf840 is made by International Rectifier and go to their website for more info and where in your area they can be purchased. This component is popular for use in Monitors and TV’s as well so easy to obtain. Check the little surface mount components on the other side of the board. P.S Hexfet is a registered name for the type of component commonly refered to as a MOSFET. I&R’s info file on the Irf840 will show that info. Also check a component labeled ir2111s on the smd side of the board if it is a “yellow” or “mustard” case. Again read the info about ir2111s on I&R’s site. Good Luck 😀
