Re: Caple CR1200/1 Lower element Main oven

Just as an aside, this particular cooker has been the most challenging test of endurance yet, not only by not being able to get the element out, but once I did, the replacement ran for 20 secs or so then shorted. Oh dear me, I said, sensing immediate disaster, sure enough after megga, condensation in new element, off back to B’ham, from Coventry to exchange element, test replacement with megga,OK, back to Coventry run for 15secs, see above. Source element from alternative supplier, Leicester, back to Coventry and fit, cross everything and power up. Abso – lutely fine, thank ….If anybody wants a lower element fitting in above appliance…I’m your man.

Thanks for the help guys, the gentleman who gave me the info, for which I would certainly buy him several beers, was Phil at Caple on 07970 829084, might be worth filing the number cos Caple are supplied a lot by Magnet etc. and there isn’t much info around at the moment. Thanks again.

Washman was right, just heard from Caple tech. that there are two screws at the rear of appliance, one is hidden by the terminal cover, remove both and terminals from element, remove screws holding element,, push screwdriver through large holes in backplate and lever down aluminium base plate. From front, push back base plate to reveal element which is held by crossbar.
    Hoo – bloody-ray!!!!!!

Had a good look at the underside of the storage drawer which is directly below it, No screws, hinges or anything that looks remotely detachable. Looks like it’s gonna be a can opener or acetylene torch. Customer might not be too pleased though.

    Hi Andy,
Have taken the back off, the terminals are there as per, usually the element is held in a sleeve and comes out of the back, or in Cannon ranges, from behind the side panel, there is no provision to remove from the back that I can see, I have changed 100’s of elements(mainly Indesit,) Cannon ,Creda,Hotpoint etc, and occasionally others, Belling, Stoves etc. but this one has really got me, must going senile or blind. After today most likely both.
