Thanks for the quick reply – how can I check for objects between the drum + outer tub – through the holes in the drum – or is there a better way?
As for the possible syphoning – I think I may have stuffed the outlet tube futher down the drain pipe a few months ago when I was doing something else (“We don’t want it falling out, and there seems to be some slack here…”)
I’ll check and see
Thanks

Yeah, I guess I should have put some solder onto the rest of them, though I could see the other half the connector of one which failed was noticably shallower than the rest, meaning it probably never made complete contact since manufacture. The fact it’s lasted 4 years is remarkable, and I’d have expected the others to have shown some amount of burning if poor contact was present.
Still, in future I now know where to look!
As for the price of the controller, I just did a search for Remco 5535 (which was on the board) and came up with:
http://www.sparesrus.biz/ol-catlg/wm-module-02.php
which lists it as being £34. Don’t believe it’s reconditioned, but didn’t look closely at the site’s small print. Thanks again

Well, that fixed it.
I tried re-soldering the edge connector pads, but sadly I couldn’t get the solder to take, so I soldered a short length of straded wire onto the pad and filled it with solder. The connector made contact again and it spins etc.
I think the problem originated from the connector itself – looking at the contacts the one which was burnt was protuding less than the others, probably making worse contact which meant higher resistance and over time it finally burnt out. By springing the connector more, and addig the strands of wires, the connection is better than ever. As for current carrying of the few strands and solder, when you consider a very thin layer of solder was carrying it before, my solution has just as good, if not better capacity. 🙂
Saved myself £35 for a new motor controller card and only took 4 hours of my time on a saturday night. 🙂
Thanks

Thanks for the reply – I’ll bear that in mind should I not progress any further. For information, I’m in the GU2 postcode area (which happens to have nothing in the directory at present).
After looking further, I’ve looked at the motor speed controller board and noticed that one of the edge contacts where a plug connects has a slight burnt effect. All the rest are fine. This contact appears to come from/go to the heating element, which might explain a high current passing through it, but I’d expect it should be designed to not burn like that, so must be a fault of some sort. Maybe it was a poor/high resistance connection which overheated?
So, assuming this, would cleaning up the contacts sound a sensible idea?
One of the wires running to the motor is connected to this burnt terminal, so may explain the motor not turning issue.
Thanks
