You sir, are a genius! my replacement capacitor came today, so i soldered it on, and bingo the dishwasher appears to be working (still running its first cycle, but so far so good!
I found the jubilee clips i used to refiit the pump are crap and are weeping a bit of water!

will run a full program and test!

just wondering, could i test the capacitor to confirm using a multimeter?

we need to be clear as both motors are pumps. con you be more specific as to which pump your talking about as the above looks like you unplugged it and it did not run. which makes sense as things dont work when they are not plugged in

doh you are right! apologies. retyped

1. if i remove the wash pump power supply, the drain pump doesnt run
2. i probed the wash pump, and when switched on, its sitting at 80v, and then when the program starts, it jumps to 240V.
3. with the drain pump disconnected (and the wash pump connected), the wash pump seemed to come on once, but not again
4. the humming noise seems to be from the water inlet solenoid

right, i have carried out a few tests but no idea what they mean!

1. if i remove the pump power supply, the drain pump doesnt run

3. with the drain pump disconnected (and the drain pump connected), the wash pump seemed to come on
4. the humming noise seems to be from the water inlet solenoid

wondering if there is an issue with the drain pump, which i causing the voltage to drop for the wash motor, but assuming that would trip something

the motor doesnt seem to energise, there is a hum but that seems to occur with the motor disconnected. i’ll check the wires near the door

if unit fills and wash motor does not run you get the fault

with the age of it its likely the motor capacitor may be defective. if the motor is free and it buzzes slightly or tries to go before the programme aborts then its probably that

Hi Dave thanks for coming back to me so quickly!
I had had a look at the wash motor tonight, first i checked the capacitor with a mulitmeter, and it seems to be working. I next removed the wash motor and benchtested it. It seems to work, although it doesnt seem that powerful. Not sure how fast these are supposed to spin, but it wasnt quick.

not sure if its still the motor, or maybe something else?

Hey Dave, there are no labels on the frame (where they normally are), i found a sticker under the lid, which has no serial, but has a date (31/07/03). The model is a DWF40P. sorry, cant be more helpful 🙁
