Thanks for the responses so far.

I’m happy to accept that the deposits on the top shelf are food particles. The filters are always clear so I’d like to rule that out. The cups and glasses on the top tray do obscure the jets on the upper spray bar but then anything on the top tray will do this, won’t it? Am I missing something here…

In answer to Martin’s question, yes, the water in the salt container rises and spills onto the floor of the dishwasher when the lid is removed.
