Engineer came and was going to plug a new controller in. I stopped him and told him what I had done – saved him destroying another controller. If you have made attempts to fix a machine yourself, it is best to tell the engineer as it can save them time and you money. I was worried he might refuse to touch it if he knew I had touched it but he was fine with it.
Turns out it is the water heater which is shorting to earth (large connector on controller) and has blown the controller so a new heater and controller are on the way to be fitted next Friday. Surely, there should be something protecting the controller from this sort of damage.
I took out the Bosch insurance for a year (before he came) and the cost of repair came in just under the maximum. If I had let him plug the new controller in, I guess I would have been into another controller and blown the limit and the machine would have been deemed as uneconomical to repair.
Spent enough as it is but at least insurance is monthly.
The engineer told me (I realised after I blew the new controller), that there is usually something which has caused the controller to blow and he told me that it is usually the water heater. i.e. controllers don’t usually just pack up on their own!

I undid the dishwasher waste pipe from the U-bend on the sink today and found it blocked. Perhaps not fully blocked but there was a large lump of fatty gunge in there plus other fatty deposits.
Maybe the pump overloaded when pumping out and blew the controller as of course it still doesn’t work and it is stuck on zero. However, it had pumped out as no water in the machine.
Engineer coming on Friday so will hopefully find out what the problem is then, assuming he will tell me.

Hi Martin
My thoughts exactly. I will closely inspect the circuit board and components but I suspect it’s £90 down the drain and now I reckon it’s probably engineer time.
Thanks

Hi Martin
It shows 0 all the time. Pressing reset buttons does nothing. Pressing any button or buttons does nothing. No response at all from the machine.
If you look at my first post, you will see that it worked with a new control but I couldn’t set the machine model and then when I reset it just went back to how it was with the original control so I have now put old one back in.

I am assuming door switch is OK as machine worked with new control until I reset.
Thanks for the suggestion and it did occur to me that I should have checked tthat out before splashing out on a new control unit.
I also checked that the wire gauze in the inlet pipe wasn’t blocked. Note that this machine has the aqua stop fitted.
