Re: Sale of Dangerous Parts to the Public.

The only way you can stop it is if Corgi or the government make it illegal for householders to carry out any gas work in there own home, at this moment they are allowed.
About six months ago one of our engineers were called out to a customers house regarding a gas cooker. When the engineer got there he found that the customer had installed it with a garden hose pipe and tried to fix it himself. It really was worrying as the appliance was leaking and had a great potential to explode.
The engineer proceded to disconnect the gas supply to the appliance and issued a warning and informed the HSE.
Later that day I got a got a telephone call from a lady at the HSE asking why we even reported the incident and that there only interested if it was our engineer who had done it.
I stated that the appliance could have caused an explosion and damage to neighbours next door and/or the street.
Her attitude was if it explodes it explodes and just to leave a card next time. I have never been so angry in all my life.

I telephoned the head office the next day and let rip with the supervisor on the phone, he apologised but that does not give me great confidence in an organisation which is meant to look after the publics saftey.

    Re: Gorenje

If your looking for a well built machine then I would look at the Siemens, Bosch or ISE.
Bosch only offer two years guarantee though, Gorenje are ok but i would rather put more money towards either of the ones above, they all have excellent after sales service also and in my opinion would last longer.

    Re: Compensation Issue

Doesn’t matter if it was a fault of the repair or the customer trying it on, the fact remains and trading standards will inform you that when this type of situation occurs, the customers should allow the engineer to rectify the fault and investigate the damage. If not we would have claims coming at us left, right and centre. Now many of the people on this site have been in business nearly the same amount of time as yourself Martin but Fairtrading doesn’t mean letting people get away with claims with out it being properly investigated. If you have the money to give to customers when they claim, you or your engineers have caused damaged with out investigating then that is your choice.
I feel this would do more damage to the business’s reputation and of the engineers.

I have done an NVQ 3 in customer service and I have always been told that the customer is NOT ALWAYS RIGHT, and should not accept this common view. The engineer should not pay any claim until they have carried out the correct procedures, which have been previously stated on this thread.

    Re: Help Yourself First

I find it very dis-heartening that the members of ukw have had a reaction like this to all the work they have done to help the network to help you! These guys have buissness to run also but have put in all their free time to make something of this trade. There was a time where there were work providers who were bullying us into basically doing work for nothing until ukw formed and helped us all get together and fight against the hardship we were facing, and as result of that many of us have had an increase in what we are being paid. With out the help of ukw we would never have got this. what could you possibly loose from joining in and showing your support. We had a training session the other day and it was brilliant it only took a morning and the engineers thought is was very interesting and learned a thing or two.

Also regarding project x, yes the members have kept some details a secret regarding the machine. but have some common sense guys wouldn’t you when you’ve got most of the manafactures looking in on this site.

all I can say is well done to you guys that have worked your arses off to help the trade and it is appreciated even though some don’t show it.

Re: A New Trend In Ripping Off Repairers

your right, they would much rather try and find out how their going make money out of these suppliers. Like they have done with us. At the end of the day instead of trying to get rid of cowboys from doing repairs CORGI are forcing firms into becoming cowboys due to the fact that many firms can no longer afford the prices they charge and making them do other modules which have nothing to do with repairing gas appliances.
There not actually doing the job there supposed to, which is saving the public from getting killed either by themselves fitting parts or by cowboys.
