Re: Hotpoint ( Aquarius) WD420P Flashing lights
Just for the record I purchased a Hotpoint WD420 1200 spin wash/drier in I think about 2006 from a local retailer that subsequently closed down. It looked like a good buy. I live on my own and hardly used it (perhaps once per month) before it packed up on me within the second year. I went back to the shop and because it was beyond twelve months they were pretty dismissive. They gave me the name of a local engineer and that was that. I have just learned from from your correspondent that parts are free for five years, a relevant fact I was not told about by the dealer at the time. When I rang the engineer, he sounded so pessimistic that I didn’t pursue it with him. Strangely the machine worked for a friend when he was here about a year ago, but it’s returned to the flashing “reduce creases” and “on/off” lights. A new engineer contacted has promised to “look up the codes and tell me whether it is worth repairing”. This prompted the Google search that found you. I’ve given up on the thing and now take my washing to the launderette but I feel cheated by a manufacturer that I thought was I good British name. From your contributors I have discovered not only that this fault is common but also that it is not even British any more (along with the rest of industry!) Needless to say, I shall never touch Hotpoint again. Regards, Tim V.
