ParticipantRe: HNF3157 Hoover Nextra spin related faults
Just a quick up date, I replaced the selector switch/motorized timer and I did indeed get the 90 deg wash cycle back. The motor is still not spinning at the full 1500RPM on the main wash, though it does on others as previously discussed.
Thanks for all your help 8)Vossy1

I ran another 2 cycles tonight, a daily 44 minute and a daily 29, both span fine
So that’s 3 cycles fine, main 4 hour cycle faulty, 90 degree cycle completely dead (doesn’t even light up on selection) and spin cycle faulty…oh fgs :rolls: 😆

Thanks for the feedback M, much appreciated. I have a standard multi meter but I don’t have the equipment to test 500dcv.
TBH, if it’s looking like a new motor at £100+ I’m quite likely to get a new machine, I was just hoping it might be something cheaper as I’d prefer to fix than join the throw away society 😆Vossy1

I did another cycle this avo again with a failed spin cycle/pulsing for 2 rpm then stopping. When you listen to the wash controlling knob you can hear it cycling through the wash cycle by a number of clicks from behind the control knob.
The clicks corresponded to the pulsing of the motor in the spin cycle. I would have expected the clicks to correspond to the wash cycle not the failing spin cycle, this sounds very much like a feedback loop to me, with something stopping the motor from spinning….hmm.
Is there anything that can over ride the spin cycle in a wash preventing it from spinning?Vossy1

Different morning, different problem 😥
Just tried 2 spin only cycles, the initial drain pump phase starts then a minute or so later the cycle just stops, there’s not even any cycling/clicking of motor phases, from the controller, nothing….ruddy thing :rolls:
Door lock comes off no flashing start button…nada 😆Vossy1

Right ho M…60 cycle finished…most important bit…full 1500 RPM spin and no flashing lights/fault code at end of wash!
EDIT, thanks for looking I 😉
The comm was fairly uniform in colour, it was a RPITA taking that pic lol, I’ll see if I have another.EDIT…slightly out of focus but bigger

I didn’t look TBH. It’s half way through a 60 min cycle now, I’ve told the Mrs to leave it when it’s finished and will check then 😉

Hi Martin, Yep, the machine tumble washes fine.
We took the wet duvet which wouldn’t spin in our 7.5kg Nextra, round to the parents in law and it spun fine in their 6kg Candy machine. I’m wondering if their could be a faulty load indicator on our machine which is preventing the motor from doing it’s job…ie, over riding the spin cycle, does that sound feasible?
When we went out we also put a full load in our machine and came home to find it was semi spun dry, clothes still a bit wetter than they should be.
I put the load on for another spin cycle and it worked fine, albeit it didn’t do the full 1500 rpm spin.Hmmm

Cleaned armature, motor housing and brushes. Brushes show little sign of wear for 8 years old v new

I can’t see anything obviously wrong with the motor, it seems to be doing what it’s told to do, no spin longer that a 2 rev burst at slow pace until cycle times out 😡 😆Vossy1
ParticipantRe: HNF3157 Hoover Nextra spin related faults
Hi Martin thanks for the feed back, I’ll do that later.
I’ve just tried the spin cycle with just the duvet cover in it.
It appears the motor is getting an intermittent feed or there may be a motor fault. The revolution of the drum is broken, it’s spinning say an 1/8 of a revolution pausing momentarily then another 1/8. When it enters the next spinning phase in the opposite direction it’s just spinning an 1/8 and that’s it, not even a revolution…very odd…sound like anything you know of?
I’ll post some pics later when I take the motor out.Vossy1

I removed the motor and cleaned the armature, it was dirty but not that bad. I disassembled the carbon brushes, they had quite a lot of life left in them, refitted the lot and tried a load.
Spinning better but still not full speed. I also decided to replace the carbon brushes after that load as they’re cheap enough.
Yesterday we put a small duvet in and the problem of a pulsing very low speed spin lasting about 4 seconds has returned, when I say slow I mean about 2 revs per second, 120rpm.
Could this be a faulty excessive load sensor preventing the spin, it just seem odd that a heavier load has triggered the problem. I’ll try another load later today but don’t hold out much hope. Thanks for any help in advance 😉

Thanks for the quick reply Martin 😉
One thing I forgot to say (non spin related) is that the 90 cycle went a long time ago, won’t even light up on selection. -
