You couldnt make this up really could you?
I purchased the backplate complete with bearings for said machine. Assembled it guess what? The backplate wouldnt fit onto the drum housing. Upon measuring the old plate and the new one the new one is 3mm larger so no amount of cajouling was going to make it fit. My local shop said it was the correct part number 081781 so everyones confused ?????????
Rang hotpoint they told me that for the machine of my serial number i gave, you cant buy just the backplate anymore. I told them I have just bought one!!!! They said yes but that is old stock and wont fit your machine it will be too big!!!! So I now have no option but to buy complete drum assembly which is …..wait for it……£189!! I informed her that a new machine was this price and she said “so buy a new machine then”So lets recap.
1 The bearing ( a replaceable item) went
2 The bearing left the old casing behind
3 The casing cannot be removed due to a crap design
4 The bearings are in a back plate that costs £57
5 I buy the backplate its the wrong one
6 Correct one is not available
7 Need new drum complete for £189
8 Shop wont take back backplate cos its dirty and usedAbsolutely unbelievable.
Moral of the story DONT BUY AN INDESIT.

As im under pressure from her indoors decided to buy backplate complete with bearing. Everything else on the machine seems ok. Did give the bearing a few cursory whacks but it just took lumps out of the chisel! As an engineer (not domestic goods) it just annoys the pants off me to fail this way.

Thanks Richard
What a really cr+p design. If they had chosen a bearing just 1mm larger on the outer casing then a large socket would easily drive it out. Maybe they intend for me to buy a new backplate or even better still a new machine. My local engineer called them in-de-sh1t rather than indesit. But then I guess you pros already know that!!
Thanks again -
