That does look like the filter.Havent managed to get a model number.dryer is stacked on top of washing machine,in a tight space so cannot get access to the back to read the label.
on the front it says Hoover dryer de luxe.i will see if there is a way to try and get a mirror on a stick and a torch to see if I can get any views of the back of the machine.

Thanks Dave and Martin.Worked perfectly.I pressed on it with my weight behind it and turned it very quickly anti-clockwise and it came out.it has gone back on easily and seems to come off easily now.
Now I can look into repairing the mesh filter
