Argos-to-Homebase retail giant GUS has emerged as a possible contender to buy all or part of PowerHouse, the stricken electrical retail chain.

The Sunday Telegraph said GUS was in talks with Deloitte & Touche, the receiver seeking a buyer for 130 PowerHouse stores.

Electricals giant Dixons, which owns Currys and PC World, is also thought to have inquired about the operations.

And Comet owner Kesa Electricals is said to be looking at a selected number of stores.

Deloitte was appointed administrative receiver on Wednesday after a trade insurer withdrew cover for some of the company’s suppliers.

The move resulted in plans to close 93 of PowerHouse of 223 stores by the end of the month – costing 813 jobs out of a 3,000 strong workforce.

Deloitte is now looking to sell the rest of the business as a going concern.
