Reuters and the Nikkei newspaper report that Hitachi is looking to sell off its domestic appliance division as the groups wishes to focus more on social infrastructure and digital sectors.
They say that a sale could be worth around 100 billion yen ($£500 million) or more
Hitachi is reported to have reached out to multiple companies to buy its white goods business, with Samsung being one of its potential buyers.
However, reports added that Hitachi is keeping open the option of retaining the business due to its potential to contribute to the company’s brand recognition among consumers.
So far as we know, the brand of Hitachi is used under a partnership in most regions by Turkish Arçelik, better known as Beko in the UK with TVs made by Vestel under licence.
