According to a recent survey carried out by LEC eight out of ten homes in the UK your toilet is cleaner than the fridge or fridge freezer!
In the poll more than 64% of the 1500 people polled said that they cleaned the fridge once a month with 22% confessing that they only did so twice a year.
Nearly half said that they would only clear out the fridge if there’s a spillage inside, and 28 per cent take action only when there’s a bad smell.
Those who do claim to clean their fridge regularly are not doing a good enough job according to the research.
Seventy per cent of those questioned simply wipe the inside with a damp cloth. But as dishcloths often contain more bacteria than other kitchen items, this just moves the problem around said Lec.
More than 75% of respondents found fridges too “awkward to clean”.
